‘I’m sure the organisers are Yoruba’ — Zubby Michael accuses AMVCA of tribalism Zubby Michael, a Nigerian actor, has accused the organisers of the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) of tribalism. The 2020 edition of the annual event held in Victoria Island, Lagos, on Saturday, with ‘Living in Bondage: Breaking Free’, a Ramsey Nouah-directed thriller, emerging the AMVCA’s biggest winner. Zubby, who was appointed special adviser on media to Willie Obiano, Anambra governor, in November 2019, however, took to his Instagram page on Tuesday to pour out his mind. He shared a snapshot of a conversation between him and another user, in which he gave his opinion on the manner in which the winning entries were chosen. The movie star also accused the organisers of tribalism even as he wondered why the likes of Chinedu Ikedieze, Osita Iheme, Pete Edochie, Patience Ozokwor, and the late Sam Loco were not recognised. “Some things are unchangeable. For example, can you change your biological Father? That Award was a joke and highly political,” he wrote. “Ndi ala, ndi ala(crazy, crazy people). We know we are great without the fake awards, do you know the meaning of viewers Choice? “I’m sure most of the organizers are Yoruba. They did not even recognize the pillars or Nollywood, the original owner of living in bondage was not mention but new living in bondage got 8 Award. “…our dead heroes like, Sam loco and others were not mentioned. Award without people that made, mama G, Aki and paw-paw, Pete Edochie, Kanayo o Kanayo.”
